KACV began operation in August, 1988 and reaches over 400,000 residents of the northern Texas Panhandle. Licensed to Amarillo College the station extends the community college philosophy of improving the quality of life for all residents. KACV operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As a PBS member station, KACV provides viewers with recognizable television series including NOVA, American Experience, Great Performances and Nature. The Station has a longstanding commitment to children airing Sesame Street, Arthur, Clifford, Barney, Teletubbies and other popular programs. Approximately a third of the Station's programming is targeted to children.

KACV has a long history of producing local programs that address timely concerns and celebrate accomplishment. Others have recognized the Station's local production skills; KACV has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Edward R. Murrow and Barbara Jordan citations. Many of KACV's local programs are aired on other public stations throughout the country.
